first of all thanks for all the help

secondly, Healing Breeze can help in certain situations, an example is, yesterday. I went onto my warrior and did the Assault on the Stronghold mission in GW:EN. the hero monks woudln't heal the Saurus (and if I had tried to micro, I may have been killed with the way things were going)

so failed the first time, next time trying the mission, healing breeze onto the saurus and it made it through in one shot without being killled. Did it again afterwards for another hero handbook and it worked again ^_^ pretty glad about that

besides situations like that, I don't know what Healing Breeze is good for

If HB is one of the few skills you have now it can still be useful. In fact, I had a quest in the forests of Factions this week where I had to keep 4 people alive to complete the quests. The heros and henches were not doing the job so I put HB and [woh] on my ele's bar and had no trouble keeping the four alive then and finished the quest.

Yes, from the above person who said don't use [rebirth] in the heat of a battle. I second that in most cases, because it completely drains your energy, and leaves the person rezed with very little health and energy. I always put the rez signet on my heroes or ask that team members have one because that's what you need in the heat of a battle.

Again, depending on what kind of team you have that will decide what kind of build I have. Sometimes I have a protection/healing hybrid or maybe giving my hero monk all healing I will then go protection. Depends.

even in this situation, shield of absorption (possibly combined with a small heal) would be more effective, at a lower energy cost.

When I did that quest I cleared the area first and I didn't need healing breeze I had no heros at this time as there was no NF.You only use rebirth when there is a wipe.Healing breeze is only used for farming

V.Don't close the party window or you won't be able to tell who has hex or a condition as well as when an enchantment is going to run out.

Imo if you want to learn to monk, play RA, then try HB/PvE, HA and finally GvG. For some people it's first HA, then GvG... But it was easier for me to start monking few weeks after Faction release. Blessed Light was like one of the best monk skills back then...

Pretty much everything important about pve monking you can learn from pvp - putting prot spirit on the lvl 98 boss's target isnt pve experience, its common sense.

Roll up a regular hyrid build (what lotus said, pretty much, take holy veil when you get better), go into RA and turn off your party menu, keep your team alive. This will teach you to prot. Managing your own energy naturally just comes from experience, as you get a feel for how much you can cast and what skills your using.

You've cut me deep. Its sad montage of the best support skills in the game time:
[Protective Spirit]
[Guardian]
[Spirit bond]
[Shield of absorption]
[shielding hands]

Thats actually not a bad idea to practice your prots with, obviously you need to have someone doin red bar pushing.. you get to read the area, watch the mobs coming to you..learn what the best prot for each situation is...and most of all...STOPS YOU STARING AT YOUR RED BARS all day...situational awareness > bar watching.

Ofc, dont do this in a group for somthing important. best with H&H who dont care your "messing around"

neither will intentionally robbing yourself of some pretty convenient and vital information about your party's status.
sure, closing the party window can be good practice for learning to watch the field instead of red barring 24/7, but it's certainly not an option for games that you wanna win.

You took what I said out of context; I wasn't suggesting to monk in PvP or a PuG without a party window, that would be ridiculous. The OP asked for suggestions on how to become a better monk, and this will make you a better monk.

We need a new sticky with just this build --> [skill]Word of Healing[/skill][skill]Reversal of Fortune[/skill][skill]Guardian[/skill][skill]Protective Spirit[/skill][skill]Mend Ailment[/skill][skill]Holy Veil[/skill][skill]Glyph of Lesser Energy[/skill] "cuz they are all skills are core skills, thats y no SoA and Mend"
so we can just stop the 267 "new monk, need build help" threads. I know we have it "clk meh!" but people don't seem to use it

by looking at whats going on? if you need voice comm to know when to prot, you may want to try a new class, Its really easy to see that war running in and say "PS FOR JOO" or that big ass axe char hitting that ele and say "GUARDIAN FOR JOO" or that mob hitting some1 and saying "SOA FOR JOO" saves their life and you energy. matter of fact its so easy to look at the battle and prot, i don't know why Billy Mays does not have a "its as easy as look, prot , save" commercial about it

I don't think Ive ever seen a build/tactic that has not worked as well in pve as pvp, hell most the time the pvp build/tactic is better then the pve 1.

I also don't see how looking at the battle "something that is a needed skill to master if you want to be a good monk" is a pvp only tactic,

I for the most part keep my eye on the radar and watch for red dots and you can see what is behind you.

but your not seeing any thing but green a red dots you cant tell who they are or if something is hitting them or if its a sprit. Not saying dont look at it but most the time its not really needed unless your team is nub and you have people all over or you in a rly bad place for agro. yes it is a tool that you can use but id take a 3d 3rd preson view over then a 8bit RTS view any day.

All you have to do, or learn really, is to watch the field. Most of Monking consists of knowing what are potential allies to be attacked.

Quote:
In stead of [aegis] I would bring [guardian]. Aegis is good for places where is going to be a lot of group knock which will interrupt your team, or group attacks where the team takes a lot of damage. Otherwise the high energy cost and long recharge makes Aegis not as useful.
Aegis's sole reason for it's existence in the game to manage a monk's energy. Use it when necessary in a battle (when you are being heavily pressured).

Quote:
Guardian works fine for most cases.
Yep. Use Guardian. It's pretty awesome.

Quote:
[protective spirit] is also good for the heavy damage takers.
It's important to note that it should be used for high damage only (10% of char's health range, usually 60 damage though lower for people who don't know how to run proper health levels). Otherwise, you will be wasting your energy if you keep using it on allies who are taking low damage.

Quote:
As far as rezs are concerned, a rule of thumb is if you don't bring one with you, you will need it, and if you bring one you probably won't use it.
Have a midline character bring a hard res if you absolutely need to: Never on a Monk.
